Brush-a-mania, April, 2009

Brush-a-Mania, April, 2009

April is proclaimed the "Oral Health" month. The Ontario Dental Association together with the Rotary Club organized visits and presentations to Ontario elementary school children to promote good oral hygiene. Our PP Rotarian David How, who coordinated this event for the Rotary Club of York with the Ontario Dental Association, expresses his sincere thanks to our fellow Rotarians: Michelle, Grayson, Peter, Jones and Ellen for their support and participation in this program. The participating dentists together with our Rotarians and David How organized a number of presentations and gave demonstrations of  good oral hygiene in Ontario elementary schools.

Our Club also contributed $100 to support Sunrise Montessori School's participation in this program. For more information about Brush-a-mania, please visit http://www.brushamania.ca/

It was a clear and sunny morning on April 23rd at Sunrise Montessori School in Markham, and amid dozens of eager and smiling faces, Dr. Sunny Yuen and his associates along with the Rotary Club of York held another session of the Annual Brush-A-Mania Event.  Since 2004, Rotarians and Dentists have been visiting different schools in Ontario to educate elementary school children about dental hygiene and good brushing technique.  This year shows even greater success as more schools were visited than in years past.

At Sunrise Montessori School's session, the children are from 2 to 8 years old. Dr. Yuen had an interactive discussion with the children about what kind of snacks are good for them and their teeth, followed by a lively brushing demonstration with several of the children posing as teeth. As the session came to a close, many were holding their new toothbrushes eager to go home and show their parents what they had learned.

If you would like more information regarding the program, would like to volunteer, or make a donation towards Brush-A-Mania, please contact your local Rotary Club.
