Clean Drinking Water Projects

The 2009-2010 Drinking Water Project in Riluo Village, Butuo County, Sichuan Province, China
Another ambitious joint project of the Rotary Club of York, the Rotary Club of Peninsula South in Hong Kong & the China Development Department of The Salvation Army, aims at solving the difficulty of 910 villagers' access to clean drinking water in Riluo village.
Riluo village has a total population of 2390 and is located in one of the poverty-stricken counties. The water shortage in this rural village has caused health problems, such as diarrhea, malnutrition, and is a major factor in the worsening poverty level in this village. At the completion of the project, the villagers were provided with basic health and hygiene knowledge. This project improved the living conditions of half of the population of the village.
Our PP Rotarian Doris Au attended the handover ceremony on our behalf in October, 2009.

The 2007 Clean Drinking Water Project
in Pojiao Village, Xichou County, Yunnan Province, China
Partnered with the Rotary Club of Peninsula South in Hong Kong & the China Development Department of The Salvation Army, the Rotary Club of York (RCOY) sponsored the Drinking Water Project for the Pojiao Village.
Pojiao is located in the very remote area in Yunnan province. The village is 22 miles away from Duyun City. Some 300 families live in the village, and they are all Miao, a minority group in China. The village is called Pojiao because it lies at the foot of the mountain.
The project was successfully completed in 2007. Clean water sources were found. Several water tanks and a network of water pipes to store the water and to deliver the clean water to the dwellings of the villagers were built. With the completion of this local drinking water system, the living standard of the village has improved. The villagers have sufficient water for their livestock and crops and save long traveling time of carrying water back to their dwellings. It also improves the overall hygiene of the villagers as well as their health. "I received a very warm welcome by the community and enjoy their local gourmet dishes" said Rotarian Janet Fung who represented the club in the Handover Ceremony at the completion of the project.
