10,000 Trees for the Rouge Valley, April 26, 2009

PP Rotarian David How & his family at the 10,000 Trees for the Rouge Valley
10,000 Trees for the Rouge Valley is a volunteer, non-profit group dedicated to restore natural habitat within the Rouge Valley, located on the northeastern outskirts of Toronto. They organize a public one-day tree planting annually during Earth Week. Since 1989,the volunteers have helped to restore over 145 acres of fragile watershed land. The plants protect creeks and streams in the Rouge watershed from soil erosion and help to link existing islands of forest and extending wildlife corridors.
PP Rotarian David How, his family and members of the Agincourt Rotary Club participated in this year's event. "It was raining for most of the morning but it did not dampen our spirit. Enthusiastic volunteers from many local organizations and school children come in their waterproof boots with their shovel in their hands and buckets. They worked diligently planting trees in the Rouge Valley all day. I and my family in prepared and cooked hamburgers for over 1000 volunteers and had a wonderful time."
